The design process is a flexible experience and each project
individual. This is therefore reflected in the services provided and
design fees charged. The process will include all or a selection of the
following steps to suit your requirements.
1. Free Consultation (1 hour meeting)
After making contact, the next step will be to arrange an initial
visit, in which I can introduce the design process and myself. I will
listen to your ideas, how you would like to use your garden and your
likes and dislikes.
Following the initial meeting, a design brief can then be formulated
and a written quotation can be provided for the estimated design fees.
2. Site Survey Analysis
On agreement of the design quotation, an accurate survey and
analysis of the existing garden is needed before any design work can
take place. For larger gardens, an independent surveying company may need to be employed.
This will allow an accurate scaled plan to be produced of the existing garden and can then be used for the new design work.
3. Draft Plan
From the information gathered
from the previous steps, a draft design will be produced,
outlining the proposed design ideas for your garden.
4. Master Plan
After a meeting to discuss the concept designs, a final detailed
master plan will be drawn, to scale, representing the final chosen
design.
5. Layout Plans
These plans are essential for the contractor, providing them with enough information to set out the new design.
6. Construction Drawings
If required, technical construction drawings for hard landscaping,
bespoke features such as pergolas, water features etc will be provided.
A specification document, explaining how the design is to be built, in
detail can also be provided.
7. Planting Plans
Taking into account the site conditions, soil conditions, aspect and
your preferences, detailed planting plans can be produced, including
full names, positions and quantities of plants for each planting area.
The planting scheme will complete the whole design, providing year round interest and enjoyment.
Optional Extras
The designer can offer to source, supply and set out the plants,
ensuring that the best quality plants are selected to complete the
design to a top quality standard.
A re-design of your borders maybe all that you require, in which
case a consultancy service is available, providing planting plans or a
list of recommended plants to inprove your existing planting scheme.
Local contractors can be suggested to carry out the implementation of the design.
A tendering service is available if required, obtaining quotes from
a selection of contractors and leaving the final decision up to you.
An easy to understand maintenance schedule, for the garden, can also
be provided if necessary, to help with the caring of your new garden.
Follow up advisory visits are offered if required to ensure the garden continues to develop as intended.
